Edward Mewburn is a singer songwriter based in Canada, writing original music which is best described as catchy, off the wall and unexpected.
Originally from Sydney Australia, his family migrated to Leeds in the UK when Edward was a child. It was during this time he developed his musical skills and passion for guitar.
“I’ve always experimented with music from an early age, but I only seriously started songwriting in early 2017, as I was also teaching myself to play piano at the time.
I’ve found my process works best when I completely write out the lyrics first, almost like a poem, and then try to work a tune out of it. I’ll write about anything, or nothing, I just see what comes out each day! My style could be described as simple, catchy and unusual songs; I like to constantly come up with new ideas and keep them short and sweet.”
Edward's main influences are the Beatles and their later solo works.
“I was so inspired by the freedom, creativity and originality that can be found across their careers that I eventually quit my office job and dedicated myself to creating my own music. Other important influences on my style and taste include the stripped down approach of Nirvana, as well as the lyricism and individuality of Morrissey.”
Edward signed to Tonotopic Records in 2018 after sending in an impressive catalog of demos he had recorded in his home studio. Different Threads released later in the year and Edward continues to write material for upcoming releases.
